The Hague: The close battle for the Eredivisie title seems to be heading towards a duel between AZ Alkmaar and Ajax after the latter beat rivals PSV Eindhoven 2-0.
In the first half, both teams played cautious and there was little going on in the Amsterdam Arena. After the break, it was Ajax that pressed to score the opening goal. Christian Eriksen was close twice, but the Danisch midfielder was not able to find the net.
The opening goal came ten minutes after the break. Ismail Aissati received the ball after a short corner and the former PSV player`s cross surprised goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton in the far corner of the goal, Xinhua reports.
Seven minutes later, Aissati was brought down in the penalty area by Marcelo and referee Pieter Vink pointed at the penalty spot. The penalty was converted by Siem de Jong, who secured the Ajax victory.
In the other matches Sunday, leaders AZ Alkmaar defeated RKC Waalwijk 1-0 through a Johann Berg Gudmundsson goal. Feyenoord left it late at De Graafschap, with John Guidetti, Ruben Schaken and Sekou Cisse getting the goals in the final 20 minutes.
