Armyman Devendra Singh creates record at Mavalankar shooting

Armyman Devendra Singh created record in the free pistol event while Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and BSF earned gold medals in their respective groups at the 23rd All India G V Mavalankar Shooting championship on Sunday.

Singh of the Services scripted the feat in the 50 metre free pistol junior men individual group scoring 269 points.
He eclipsed the record of fellow Armyman Sandip Bhalotia who had scored 266 points in Jalandhar in 2008. Another Army shooter Sukhvinder Singh earned silver in the same event scoring 266 points, equalling Bhalotia`s record. Vinay Vishwasrao Patil of Maharashtra scored 268 points in free pistol 50-metre men`s individual event and bagged a gold medal. In free pistol 50-metre junior men`s individual event, Sharad Sharma of Uttarakhand scored 260 points to win gold. Daljeet Kaur of BSF won gold at sports pistol 25-metre women`s individual event by scoring 275 points and Sandeep Kaur of Punjab scored 260 points in sports pistol 25-metre junior women`s individual and bagged a gold medal. Harjot Singh of Chandigarh scored 265 points in the sports pistol 25-metre junior men`s individual event to emerge winner. The championship is being conducted by Asansol Rifle Club, an affiliate of West Bengal Rifle Association under the patronage of the National Rifle Association of India.
