Centre's excise duty cut on petrol, diesel to cost Rs 45,000 cr to exchequer

For the remaining months of the ongoing FY22, the cost will come at Rs 45,000 crore. The brokerage said it now expects the fiscal deficit to come at 6.5 per cent as against the earlier expectation of 6.2 per cent. The central government announced a cut in excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 10 per litre on the eve of Diwali.
