देश के राष्ट्रपति डॉ एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम की राष्ट्रपति बनने की दिलचस्प कहानी इसी साल बुनी गई. मशहूर वैज्ञानिक एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम अपनी क्लास लेकर लौटे तो पता चला कि उनके दफ्तर में फोन की घंटी कई बार बजी, तभी उस टाइम भी फोन बजा और और प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने हालचाल लेने के बाद डॉ एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम से कहा - 'मैं एक पार्टी मीटिंग से लौट रहा हूं जहां हम सभी ने मिलकर ये फैसला लिया है कि देश को एक राष्ट्रपति के रूप में आपकी जरूरत है।
