New education policy will develop children for global competition: Pokhriyal
"Those who are raising questions about this new education policy, I would like to tell them that we held an extensive consultation with people from different walks of life," the HRD Minister said "It was not formulated in the four walls of a room, but suggestions were invited from more than 1.5 lakh village committees, besides consulting teachers, students, parents, MPs, MLAs, and even village representatives." The draft for new education policy was also put in the public domain and we received more than two lakh suggestions that were incorporated to come out with a new National Education Policy .

Cabinet clears National Education Policy to reform higher, school education
The NEP will replace the existing National Policy on Education, which was formulated in 1986 and later modified in 1992 The NEP includes the extension of the Right to Education Act 2009 to cover children between the age group of 3 to 18 years It also seeks to reduce the content load in the school education curriculum.
