Serena heads to French Open with time running out for Grand Slam No. 24

Serena has remained one title behind Margaret Court`s all-time record since bagging her 23rd Grand Slam singles trophy at the Australian Open in January 2017. On Thursday, the American tennis star bowed out of the US Open after slumping to 6-1, 3-6, 3-6 defeat against Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals. Serena will now resume her pursuit of a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title at the French Open, which is slated to take place from Sept. 21 to Oct. 11.

US Open: Azarenka stuns Williams to set up Osaka showdown

Azarenka knocked out Williams after clinching a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win in a pulsating last-four clash that lasted one hour and 55 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium. With the victory, Azarenka has now clinched her first win over Williams at a major tournament and denied the latter's chances of claiming a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title. The Belarusian has now set up a clash against Japanese tennis player and world No.10 Naomi Osaka in the final of the Grand Slam event.
