COIMBATORE: More than 1,200 activists of various outfits were arrested here on Wednesday when they attempted to stage demonstrations on the Babri Masjid demolition issue, police said.
About 900 activists of some outfits, led by Hindu Munnani, attempted to stage a demonstration here but police removed and arrested them.
Demonstrations were held near South Taluk office by Tamil Nadu Muslim Munetra Kazhakam and at Attupalm in Ukkadam by SDPI, police said.
Meanwhile, about 300 workers of Manitaneya Jannayaka Katchi were arrested, when they attempted to stage a rail roko at the railway station.
