Bulandshahr violence: Manish Mishra appointed new ASP, Raees Akhtar transferred to PAC headquarters

Lucknow: Manish Mishra has been appointed as the Additional Superintendent of Police, (Rural) Bulandshahr on Sunday. He replaced Raees Akhtar, who has now been transferred to PAC headquarters, Lucknow.

Three other police personnel were also transferred following the incident.

On Saturday, Senior Superintendent of Police Krishna Bahadur Singh was transferred to Director General of Police (DGP) Headquarters in Lucknow while SP Prabhakar Chaudhary was appointed as the new Bulandshahr SSP.

Two other police officials were also transferred in connection to the mob violence. Circle Officer (CO) Satya Prakash Sharma and Suresh Kumar, the in-charge of Chingravathi police chowki, were transferred 'for their failure in responding in time to the situation arising on Monday in that area'. IPS LR Kumar was appointed as the new chief of Sitapur.

Earlier in the day, an Army jawan, who is allegedly involved in the Bulandshahr firing that killed a police Inspector and a civilian, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh STF (Special Task Force) in Meerut. Army jawan Jitendra Malik alias Jeetu Fauji was on Saturday detained by the Jammu and Kashmir 22 Rashtriya Rifles in Sopore town.

A mob of around 400 people, including right-wing activists, clashed with the police on December 3 in Siana area of Bulandshahr district, after allegedly discovering cow carcasses thrown in a nearby jungle. The angry mob set fire to dozens of vehicles, stone pelted and fired at police who then retaliated with gunfire.

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, the station house officer of Siana who once investigated Akhlaq lynching case, and 20-year-old Sumit Kumar were killed in the incident.
