New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday defended the action taken against illegal and mechanised slaughterhouses and meat shops running in the state and said that crackdown has been ordered against those who have been operating without a license.
"Action is being taken against illegal slaughterhouses and meat shops in Uttar Pradesh. Legal slaughterhouses with valid documents and license should continue to follow regulations," UP Health Minister and Siddharth Nath Singh said backing government's stand on slaughterhouses.
"We have instructed the police to not misuse power, vigilantism will not be accepted," the minister said while adding that there has been no order from the government to shut down chicken and egg shops.
"No orders has been given by the government to close down shops selling chicken and eggs. Do not believe news of it going around on social media," Singh said.
"We have repeatedly said and are saying it again that this ban is against the illegal slaughterhouses and anything illegal has to be stopped. We request all people's representatives to make sure that their words do not create misunderstandings," he asserted.
Singh added further that the Uttar Pradesh government has been working well under the new Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and asked the government officers to respect the jurisdiction.
