Son burns father to death for refusing share of money: Police

A 70-year-old man was allegedly burnt to death by his son in Nadia district for refusing to give him a share of the money he had earned by selling some trees, the police said on Sunday.

Ranaghat: A 70-year-old man was allegedly burnt to death by his son in Nadia district for refusing to give him a share of the money he had earned by selling some trees, the police said on Sunday.

The incident happened at Rabanbar village under the jurisdiction of Ranaghat police station on Friday night, a police officer said.

Baidyanath Biswas had sold some trees for Rs 90,000 and his son Abodh Biswas wanted a share, he said.

Abodh allegedly poured petrol on his father while he was sleeping and was burnt to death, the officer said.

His mother Saraswati also received burn injuries while making an effort to save her husband, he said.

Abodh also received burn injuries as he tried to save his mother, the officer said.

All of them were taken to Ranaghat Anulia Hospital, where Baidyanath was declared brought dead, he said.

While his wife was sent to Kalyani JNM Hospital, Abodh was admitted to the Ranaghat hospital, the officer said.

Later, Baidyanath's other son Subodh lodged a complaint against Abodh at the Ranaghat police station.
