New Delhi: In one of the most exciting outcome among the five states that went to polls in November and December, the results in Delhi Assembly Elections has surprised many with the first time entrant into the electoral arena, the Aam Aamdi Party putting up a good show. While the Congress was facing a huge anti-incumbency and had to face a tough fight from the BJP and Congress, the defeat of three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has come as a huge blow for the ruling party. The BJP has won 32 seats, AAP 28, Congress 8 and others 2. The counting for the largest turnout in Delhi - over 66 percent - began at 8 am. AAP`s Surender Singh, a former NSG commando and part of the team that fought the 26/11 terrorists in Mumbai, defeated Bharatiya Janata Party`s Karan Singh Tanwar in the Delhi Cantonment constituency.

AAP`s Somnath Bharti wins in South Delhi`s Malviya Nagar constituency defeating BJP`s Arti Mehra.

Delhi Power Minister Haroon Yusuf defeats Moti Lal Sodhi of BJP in Ballimaran.

AAP`s Vinod Kumar Binny defeats Congress` AK Walia in Laxmi Nagar.

A news agency reports that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is trailing behind Arvind Kejriwal by over 8,000 votes in New Delhi constituency.

As per the Election Commission of India (at 12:30 pm), the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 36 seats against the AAP`s 25 and Congress` 07. Shiromani Akali Dal and an Independent are ahead in one seat each.

AAP cut our votes, says Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad, adding the percentage of BJP votes may have also lessoned due to AAP`s performance.

After sending her resignation to Delhi Lt Governor, Sheila Dikshit says: "We have to analyse what went wrong." She said she accepts election results with due respect and further thanked everyone for their support for 15 years. Asked whether she failed to read the public mood, she sarcastically said, "Bewakoof hai na hum?"

As AAP founder Arvind Kejriwal edged past Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, Congress workers performed prayers outside her residence for victory.

Putting on a brave face, Congress spokesperson Raj Babbar says it is not the BJP but AAP which has weakened Congress in Delhi.

Anna Hazare advises Kejriwal not to take support from any party in Delhi.

The Bharatiya Janata Party admits that the Delhi verdict was not "to our expectations". "We thought we will get a clear majority but the results are not to our expectations," said BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi.

Former IPS officer and flagbearer of the India Against Corruption movement Kiran Bedi tweets: "Aap was born when Congress refused to set up an SIT on Coalgate in July 2011!Had it done so!Aap may not have been there today to beat them!"
