Odisha artist sculpts huge sand cake for Amitabh Bachchan

Bhubaneswar: Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik Wednesday sculpted a huge sand cake on the beach of his hometown Puri as a birthday gift to legendary Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan who turns 70 Thursday.

The 7-feet-high sculpture includes the face of the superstar and a colourful image of a cake. Pattnaik said he, alongwith the students of his sand art institute created the image using about five tonnes of sand. "We worked for about four hours to complete the sculpture. A large number of tourists and local residents gathered around and watched this unique art form," Pattnaik told reporters from his hometown, about 56 km from here. "Amitji will get many birthday gifts, but I hope this gift will be an unique for him," he said. Pattnaik has participated in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships across the globe and has won many prizes. He is also the brand ambassador of the state -run aluminium major Nalco.
