Gujarat Titans

157/10(20 Overs)

Right then, Chennai will feel that they are slightly ahead in the game as runs on the board are always crucial in a pressure game. That said, they are up against one of the most successful chasing sides in Gujarat. On the other hand, Gujarat would have liked to keep Chennai under 160 but they do have the resources to get over the line here. Do we have another Shubman Gill special on the cards? Let's find out. Back in a bit for the chase.

Mohit Sharma is in for a chat. He says that the ball did stick a bit and the slower ball is gripping a bit as well. Adds that 172 is a good score and the opposition has good bowlers and they will have to bat well and focus on the running as well. Says that he told Darshan Nalkande that he should bowl to his strengths but keep the ball back and not full. Ends by saying that there is no dew at all.

Mohammad Shami finishes off with a wicket but it is Chennai who have racked up a competitive total on the board! After Chennai were put into bat by Hardik Pandya, as they have done all season, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway got Chennai off to a steady start. Conway was struggling for rhythm but Gaikwad was fluent as usual and stroked his fourth fifty of the season. After his dismissal, the boundaries dried up for Chennai but Ajinkya Rahana provided some much-needed impetus with his cameo

Gujarat being one of the most successful bowling sides in the Powerplay, it was Mohammad Shami who opened the attack for them and bowled a quiet first over. Playing in his first game of the season, Darshan Nalkande dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad in his very first over only for it to be a no ball. Gujarat seemed to have lost their way after this no ball incident and leaked a lot of runs during the Powerplay. They pulled things back nicely during the middle overs and seemed to have control of the p

Mohammad Shami to Ravindra Jadeja, Well bowled! Full and angled at the stumps, Ravindra Jadeja heaves it down to long on for just a single.

Mohammad Shami to Ravindra Jadeja, ! TIMBER! Mohammad Shami ends the over with a bang but still 15 runs come off it. Stays from around the wicket and bowls it on a fullish length around off, angling it in. Ravindra Jadeja hangs deep and winds up for the big heave across the line but misses the ball completely. The ball goes on to crash into the stumps and Chennai finish with a solid total of 172/7 on the board.

Wriddhiman Saha does well to get behind it and Ravindra Jadeja is sprinting to the batter's end for a bye. Saha gets the direct hit in but Jadeja manages to slide his bat inside the crease in time. Free Hit coming up...

They do have a long batting lineup and with Devon Conway well-set, they will look to up the ante a bit. Gujarat have done really well to pull things back and would try to sneak in a few quick overs without conceding many runs. Well, the previous delivery was a front-foot no ball so, instead of an early wicket for Darshan Nalkande, it will be a Free Hit for Ruturaj Gaikwad.

We are all set for Qualifier 1 to begin! The two umpires make their way out to the middle as the players of Gujarat are seen in a huddle before striding out to the middle as well. Out come the openers for Chennai - Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. Mohammad Shami has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. The crowd is absolutely buzzing, so, let's play...

Mohammad Shami to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Starts on a good length, at 136.4 kph, shaping away, outside off, Ruturaj Gaikwad shoulders arms and lets it go. The ball continues to move away after passing the batter and drops just short of the diving Wriddhiman Saha.

MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai, says that they would have bowled first as well. Adds that Gujarat have chased well and he wanted to put them into bat first. Mentions that his team has shown maturity and have shown that they can read the game well. Reckons that it is important to back one's strengths and that confidence should be high. Adds that they have been able to do that which is why they are in the playoffs. Shares that the pitch will slow down and a lot will depend on the dew and it migh

Hardik Pandya, the captain of Gujarat says that they will bowl first because there might be dew and they would know how much they need to win. Adds that being in the top two has a different pressure as well and the thing to keep in mind is to play good cricket. Says that the kind of players they have, they play smartly and try to get the best out of the wicket whether it be the batters or the bowlers. We are back for the chase.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Gujarat will feel that they are slightly ahead in the game, having managed to pull things back in the second half of their bowling effort. The onus is now on their batters to get their side over the line. On the other hand, Chennai will be a bit disappointed with their batting effort towards the end but this is still a competitive total. We surely have a match on our hands. Stick around as the chase is coming up shortly...

After Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first, Mohammad Shami as he usually does, provided Gujarat with an early breakthrough. However, other bowlers were unable to compliment him and were blown away by the onslaught from Ruturaj Gaikwad. Hardik Pandya then brought Rashid Khan into the attack and the leggie repaid the faith by striking twice in quick succession. This helped Gujarat tighten the screws and they kept chipping in wickets at regular intervals during the middle overs.

Moeen Ali is in for a quick chat. He says that they are a bit disappointed and should have got 15-20 runs more but at the end of the day, they have to bowl well. Adds that the pitch was decent and good for batting but Ruturaj Gaikwad played a brilliant inning. Mentions that the Chennai support is always strong and when he was batting, it was really loud in the middle.

Despite the final over flourish by MS Dhoni, this has been a good fightback by Gujarat and they have done well to keep Chennai under 180. After being put into bat first, Chennai were rocked early with the early departure of Devon Conway. His opening partner, Ruturaj Gaikwad took no time to get going and got into the groove with a couple of crisp boundaries. Those boundaries were a sign of things to come as Gaikwad kept finding the ropes at regular intervals. Moeen Ali looked good during his

Joshua Little to MS Dhoni, ! Another one around middle and leg at over 142 clicks. MS Dhoni heaves this one in between square leg and mid-wicket and picks up a boundary. Joshua Little is under immense pressure now.

Free Hit coming up...
