New Delhi: Cold wave conditions in most parts of northern India continue to play havoc with railway schedule, with several trains running late or being cancelled.
Foggy conditions in most parts of northern Indian plains have resulted in low visibility. This has caused as many as 28 late arrivals in New Delhi between Monday night and Tuesday early morning. Another three had to be diverted while 18 were cancelled.
Train delays due to fog has become a common occurrence in winter months and Indian Railways has long been promising to implement newer technologies to avoid such situations. In its latest effort, a new signalling system is all set to be tested on Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata routes. Media reports suggest that if these tests are successful, the system would be put into place on other routes as well - helping in monitoring train schedules and reducing time lost due to low visibility.
