New Delhi: We all know that tofu is an effective source of protien for those people who don't eat meat. Tofu is a product of soy and promotes many health benefits. But many of us are not aware that this healthy food also give many side effects when consumed in excess.
Here are some side effects of tofu:
A study published in the Journal of Nutrition said that excessive consumption of soy products like tofu increases the risk for cancer. Soy contains isoflavones in it which is dangerous for breast cancer.
Excessive consumptions of tofu causes kidney stones as it contains rich amount of oxalates that are responsible for the occurrence of the disease. After oxalate gets absorbed from food, it gets excreted into urine and cannot be metabolised.
Soy products like tofu contains isoflavones which adversely affect thyroid function and can interfere with thyroid absorption. A study published in the journal Thyroid said that consumption of soy products could increase their risk of developing hypothyroidism.
If you have respiratory problems like asthma, then reduce your tofu intake. Excessive consumption of soy products like tofu leads to increased levels of mucus in the body which can cause problems like cold, cough, and asthma.
