DJB plugs 310 leakages in pipelines during special drive

Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has plugged 310 leakages in its pipelines during a special drive in the past one month.

New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has plugged 310 leakages in its pipelines during a special drive in the past one month.

Terming the drive as "quite successful", Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DJB SS Yadav on Sunday said leakages were detected and plugged immediately due to which millions of litres of water have been saved.

"The leakages include both surface leakages which are easy to detect as well as hidden leakages which are detected with the help of instruments. Millions of litres of water have been saved by detecting and plugging these leakages," Yadav said.

He said 20 special squads were constituted for detection of leakages and they were equipped with latest instruments and gadget to detect hidden leakages.

"DJB has developed a state-of-the-art geographical information system (GIS). The leakages detected are plotted on the GIS map. This gives instant information to DJB about the areas vulnerable to hidden and surface leakages," the DJB said in a press release.

It also said that DJB has prepared a plan to replace the pipelines in vulnerable areas which will help in reducing the number of leakages in future.

DJB also said that commissioning of new water treatment plants at Dwarka and Bawana has helped them in improving water supply in Delhi this year and water production has gone up from 835 MGD to 880 MGD.

DJB appealed to the people to inform DJB's 24x7 help line number 1916 if they find leakage in any pipeline.
