MCD to crackdown industrial units in housing areas

Delhi government today asked MCD to crackdown on those industrial units which are operating from residential and non-conforming areas.

New Delhi: Delhi government today asked MCD
to crackdown on those industrial units which are operating
from residential and non-conforming areas of the city in
violation of a Supreme Court order.
The Supreme Court in 1996 had directed to close down
industrial units functioning in residential and non-conforming
areas following which the Delhi government had offered plots
to the units in designated industrial areas in Bawana,
Bhorgarh Narela, Jhilmil, Badli and Patparganj.

However, as some units are still operating from the
residential and non-conforming areas, the Industries
department has requested the MCD to immediately close them.

"The Industries department has given a list of allottees
of industrial units under the relocation scheme to the MCD
with request to take necessary action for closure of these
industrial units," an Industries department official said.

The department has so far allotted plots to 22,499
industrial units which are operating in residential and
non-conforming areas under the relocation scheme.
