Kolkata: A leopard, which was reported by locals to have lifted cattle, was captured in a tea-garden in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district and later released into the wild by the forest department, an official said on Saturday.

"The male leopard was caught in a cage-trap early morning. We had received complaints from residents and workers of the tea garden that the animal lifted cattle. The leopard was later released in the jungle," Divisional Forest Officer, Jalpaiguri, Sumita Ghatak told IANS.

She said it is a routine exercise that forest officials undertake to prevent human-animal conflicts.
