Goa schools to reopen on June 8 clarifies state government

A day before the academic year commenced, the state of Goa was hit by a rumour that the date of commencement of the academic year would be postponed.

Panaji: A day before the academic year commenced, the state of Goa was hit by a rumour that the date of commencement of the academic year would be postponed.

However, this was later ruled out by the Goa state government.

A fake circular which was shared on Facebook had claimed that schools would reopen from June 10 as against it's scheduled reopening on June 8.

The circular which had Director of Education G Bhat's electronic signature claimed that the delay was due to a strike by school buses.

The Goa state government quickly clarified about the so called "circular" this afternoon, after parents started calling up schools to confirm.

"The academic year begins tomorrow. We have not issued any such circular," Bhat told PTI.

A senior education department official said that the Goa state government has taken cognisance of the fake circular and would inquire into it's origin.
