Ceasefire violation: Unprovoked firing by Pakistan in Poonch

On the eve on India`s 69th Independence Day, Pakistan on Friday opened unprovoked fire in Hamirpur area of Balakote sector, Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir) at 6:20 pm where the firing is still underway.

The firing escalated from small arms to 60 mm mortars to which the Army retaliated. No causalities have been reported so far.

On Tuesday, in twin ceasefire violations, Pakistani troops resorted to small arms firing on forward posts along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts.There have been 19 ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border in July in which four persons, including three jawans, were killed and 14 others injured.
