Raje must resign on moral grounds, says Gehlot

New Delhi: Former Rajasthan chief minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Monday said incumbent Vasundhara Raje must step down on moral grounds so that the investigation can take its own course.

"It is very unfortunate. Advani gave clear indication, even Govindacharya said it clearly and now everyone in all the political parties is saying the same thing that at least for once resignation must be given on moral grounds. After that, the investigation can take its own course and if the charges are proven false then no one can stop her from becoming the CM again," Gehlot told ANI.

"No one is left now to echo similar thoughts than RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat," he added.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue K.N. Govindacharya had earlier said that instead of trying to give legal excuses, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government must take a principled stand on its leaders.

BJP stalwart Lal Krishna Advani had earlier in an interview reportedly said that 'political credibility was essential and politicians must live up to the trust placed in them by voters'.

The remarks of Govindacharya and Advani come at a time when External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje are facing calls to resign for their links to former IPL boss Lalit Modi, who is facing a number of investigations related to alleged financial irregularities.
