Congress likely to take call on bifurcation of Thane

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary Sanjay Dutt said that division of Thane district is a forgone conclusion and is on the anvil of the party.

Addressing a rally of the Congress workers at tribal-dominated Wada tehsil in the district, Dutt said
"bifurcation" of the district was fast approaching and it may take place well before June.
He said that the state government may take a call on `splitting` the most populous district in the country once the ongoing Assembly session is ended on April 21.

Thane with a population of 1.11 crore has the highest density of people and is represented by 24 MLAs besides more than half a dozen MLCs, 4 MPs and a number of Zilla Parishad
members.
Thane district (Rural) president Damu Shingada, minister of state for tribal development Rajendra Gavit, district Congress president Rajan Bhosale were present at the meeting.=
