Chandigarh, July 06: Claiming that Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi's new proposal to solve the Ayodhya issue would not bear results, the Congress today alleged that the BJP and the Sangh Parivar were raking up the issue to "generate heat" keeping an eye on the forthcoming elections in four states.
"The Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi's new formula to resolve the Ayodhya tangle would not bear fruitful results," senior Congress leader and former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahai told reporters here.
The whole controversy over the Ayodhya issue has lowered the stature of the Shankaracharya, he said.
"On the Ayodhya issue, the BJP has put the country on ransom," he said, also pointing out that no meeting of the National Integration Council had taken place since 1992.
Sahai said that his organisation Rashtriya Ekta Abhiyan would hold a day-long conference in Chandigarh on July 10 with the theme 'campaign for national unity.'
