New Delhi, May 25: Bowing to the directive of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the committee, constituted to look into the plight and problems faced by the Kashmiri migrants, will shortly meet to review the conditions of these migrants staying outside the valley.
"Recently, Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary S S Billowria came to meet me and I conveyed to him commission's unhappiness over the fact that the committee to look into the problems of migrants has not met for more than one-and-a-half years," NHRC chairman A S Anand said in an interview.

"The state chief secretary, who is the convenor of the committee, has assured me that he will shortly call the meeting," he said.

Among others, the committee comprise NHRC special rapporteur Chaman Lal and a Vaishnvi, who represents Kashmiri
migrants.

The NHRC chairman also made it clear that he was not satisfied with the relief and rehabilitation measures taken by the Centre and state government saying "I would have wanted much more to be done from the Centre and the state government in last 13 years in terms of comprehensive relief and rehabilitation of the migrants."

"I am a firm believer that right to life means right to life with dignity and not merely an animal existence," Anand, who had recently paid visit to the Jammu region, said.
