Dhirendra Singh takes over as Home Secretary

New Delhi, July 01: Senior IAS officer Dhirendra Singh today took over as new Home Secretary succeeding Anil Baijal who has been shifted to the Urban Development Ministry as Secretary.

Singh, a 1968 batch officer from Karnataka cadre, was
till recently secretary in the department of disinvestment.

The 59-year-old bureaucrat has served in several key
positions such as Joint Secretary, Cabinet Secretary and
Special Secretary, Defence Production.

Singh and Baijal posed for photographs but declined to
entertain reporters' queries.

Shortly after taking over, Singh called on Cabinet
Secretary B K Chaturvedi. Earlier, he was briefed by Baijal.

A N Tiwari, a 1969 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh
cadre, took over as Secretary, Ministry of Personnel, Public
Grievances and Pensions succeeding Arun Bhatnagar who has
taken voluntary retirement.

Bhatnagar has been appointed Secretary, National Advisory
Council, to oversee the implementation of the UPA Government's
Common Minimum Programme.

A Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer of 1968 batch, A K
Rastogi, who was on compulsary wait with the inter-state
council secretariat in the Home Ministry, also assumed charge
as Secretary, Border Management, in the same ministry.
