Jaipur, Feb 23: The Election Commission will come out with
clearer directions before the Lok Sabha polls to resolve the issue
of overlapping expenses of political parties and candidates, chief
Election Commissioner T S Krishanmurthy said today.

Inaugurating a four-day training programme of electoral officers
from 12 states here, he said one frequent complaint before the
commission was regarding candidates who showed their own poll
expense on party account. ''We will give clearer directions to
resolve this problem,'' he said.

Asking the officials to go strictly by the Election Commission
handbook on the conduct of the election process, he said efforts
should be made to ensure that the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls was
''a landmark...A milestone'' in the country's democratic process.

''Maybe 100 per cent perfection is not possible, but 99 per cent
perfection can be achieved,'' he said, calling for rigorous steps to
finalise the electoral rolls, implement the model code of conduct
and oversee the conduct of election staff.
