Bangalore, June 27: Indian Air Force is raising a special ground protection force from the existing manpower to protect air bases and other key installations in the country, and the force will be operational in the next two years.
"We are raising a force of couple of hundreds who will be given commando-like training for special operations. The training has begun and it will take two years," Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy told reporters here today.

"They will be more equipped and trained to handle such incidents and will possess required skills," the Air Chief Marshal said.
He said the commandos would be raised from the existing airmen, who will specialise in combat and search operations and maintaining security.
