India looking for concrete action: Menon to Pak delegation

Unhappy with virtual lack of action by Pakistan against perpetrators of Mumbai attacks, India on Friday sought to convey its message to Islamabad through a Pakistani delegation of peace activists.

New Delhi, Jan 23: Unhappy with virtual lack of
action by Pakistan against perpetrators of Mumbai attacks,
India on Friday sought to convey its message to Islamabad through
a Pakistani delegation of peace activists, urging it to press
the Zardari government to end terrorism.

Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon, who met the
delegation members here, said India was looking for concrete
and transparent action by Pakistan against those behind the
Mumbai attacks, sources said.

Menon told the delegation, which included senior
journalists and social activists, that there was need for
urgent action by Pakistan government.

He conveyed to the delegation that India`s experience
with Pakistan in the past has not been good and the Zardari
government should take real-time steps to show its
determination to end terrorism emanating from its soil.

Menon drew the attention of the delegation to the
unprecedented anger among people in this country because of
the Mumbai attacks.

He also had a refrain that Pakistan has hardly
communicated officially to India about whatever steps it
claims to have taken against terror groups active in that
country.

The Foreign Secretary emphasised that India had never
talked about war with Pakistan and creating hysteria in this
regard would not help the situation.

The 23-member delegation is here since Wednesday on a
peace mission.
