Bollywood pays tribute to Yash Chopra

New Delhi: Tributes poured in for veteran film maker Yash Chpora from all quarters. As per reports he was suffering from Dengue and was admitted in Lelavati hospital. Reports also said that he was suffering from multiple-organ failure. Veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who acted in Chopra's 'Mashaal' (1984), tweeted, "Shattering, hard to accept. Yash was more than a friend, a brother. I am numb and have no words to express my grief." "Yash Chopra passes away... Just now an hour ago," tweeted Amitabh Bachchan. Speaking to CNN-IBN, with her words choking a shocked Shabana Azmi said, “Its heartbreaking. When we heard that he was put on ventilator, we were all very worried. We last met him on Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday and I hugged him. How ironic that he just completed his last film.” “It is very shocking and very sad. We last met on Amitji’s birthday. He even went to the stage and gave a speech,” said Juhi Chawla who acted in Yash Chopra’s film ‘Daar’. “It was a dream come true to work with him. It was a very big film for me. He used to joke all the time. The atmosphere on the sets was very light.” Speaking to Times Now channel director of ‘Chandni Bar’ and ‘Fashion’ Madhur Bhandarkar said, “He was a brilliant filmmaker. The news is very sad and shocking.” A grieving Subhash Ghai said, “He was my guru and has been my inspiration. I cannot explain my pain.” Mahesh Bhatt had this to say, “He was rooted in the real world. The last time I met him was at the premiere of the film ‘Student of the year’. It is tragic that the last film that he directed, he will not be able to see.” Raveena Tandon said, “I am sickeningly shocked. It is a big loss for everyone. The romance has gone out of the industry.” She broke down while talking to a TV channel. Screen play writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar said, “It was thanks to him that I became a lyricist.” “I liked all his work,” said nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar, who was a permanent fixture in all Yash Chopra’s films and was his favourite singer. “I sent him flowers on his birthday. I cannot ever forget his love. He was a great person. Music was the soul of his films. He used to give a lot of importance to music.” Oscar winning music director AR Rahman said, “After the music of ‘Jab Tak Hain Jaan’, Yash Chpora was very happy. My journey in Hindi film would not have been completed if I had not worked with him.” Kajol’s mother and yesteryear actress Tanuja said, “We were very good friends even though I did not work with him. I will miss him.” Speaking to Times Now, another great actor of yesteryear Manoj Kumar, also known as ‘Bharat Kumar’ said, “The news is unbelievable. He had no vices. He loved everyone. He was a good husband, father and friend. He was a great filmmaker. I knew him since 1957. We used to go for morning walks together. It is difficult to describe him in mere words. Nobody ever spoke anything against him.” “He was an institution in himself. Yashji’s contribution to the film industry has been immense. I worked with him in 3 films. Even when we were not doing a film together, he always met me warmly. The last time I met him was for Amitji’s birthday where he came even though he was not well because he loved Amitabh Bachchan. It was all about relationships for him. He is a great filmmaker and contributed to my career but above all he was a great human being,” said Anil Kapoor. "Just got the news that Yashji passed on. He was one of the giants of cinema. My deepest condolences to his family. We will all miss him," posted actress Madhuri Dixit. "Yash Uncle we will miss you. May god give peace to your soul. RIP," tweeted Preity Zinta, who worked with Chopra in 'Veer-Zara'. "I'm in shock and numb, can't believe the news, the man who immortalised love, Mr Yash Chopra is no more. May his soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the family," tweeted actor Akshay Kumar. "The legendary romantic, the poet of evergreen love, the magician who created the greatest love stories... RIP Yash uncle... You will be missed!," tweeted Vivek Oberoi. Actress Sridevi, who worked with Chopra in 'Chandni' and 'Lamhe', tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the shocking news of Yashji passing away, he was full of warmth and affection whenever we met, he will be missed forever." Veteran singer Asha Bhosle, whose daughter Varsha passed away earlier this month, tweeted, "Just as I was getting over the grief of my daughter, my brother Yash Chopra Bhaisaab has left me. Sad year." "My mornings will never be the same. My learnings of life will never be the same. LOVE never be the same. And cinema will NEVER be the Same. Yash ji was my anchor, my quiet strength & my father figure in Mumbai. Never realised when our relationship shifted from films to family," said Anupam Kher. Farhan Akhtar said, "Today I understand the phrase 'The end of an era'. RIP Yash uncle." Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said, "Yash Ji passed away before his last film came to the theatres.. Not done." Ram Gopal Varma tweeted, "Jab tak tha yash tab tak tha cinema (Till the time Yash was there, cinema was too)." "The man who taught the country how to fall in love passes away - you will always be with us through our work - King of Romance - RIP YASHJI," Riteish Deshmukh. Prakash Jha said, "An institution has passed away today. He is an important chapter to the history of Indian cinema. Ironically he said two days ago that 'Jab Tak hai Jaan' is my last project. I am all numbed." Actress Bipasha Basu said, "We lost the iconic, inspiring and always smiling Yash Chopra today. Saddened and shocked by this news.He will be missed forever. RIP Yash Uncle." Director Anurag Basu tweeted, "Yash Chopra - Human relations will never be the same on Indian screen... The way he potrayed, nobody did, nobody could... Suppose nobody ever will."
