Hyderabad, Jan 05: Nine Left parties, including CPI
and CPM, today called for a united struggle against
globalisation and communalism through a broad political
coalition.

Speaking at a "political convention against
globalisation" here, leaders of the Left parties unanimously
voiced the need for a united struggle against globalisation
and communalism which they said were affecting socio-economic
conditions of common man.

CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechuri said the domestic
political order has to make a turn-around and a sustained
struggle should be organised by Left and secular forces
against globalistion and "communalism which is equally
damaging".

Equating communalism with IMF, World Bank and WTO, he
said they should be fought tooth and nail, if possible through
a broad political coalition.

Alleging that the Centre had surrendered to World Bank
and the imperialist effort of globalisation which aims at
converting the third world into a colony, Yechuri said the
nation was paying about Rs 1.5 lakh crore towards interest on
loans, which could have otherwise been used for the welfare of
social sector.

Naxalbari movement leader Kanu Sanyal (CPI-ML) said "the
nexus between globalisation and communalism has been playing
havoc with the lives of peasants, workers and weaker
sections".
