A total of 16,756 NGOs which got foreign funds failed to file their annual returns for 2011-12 under FCRA rules, the government on Wednesday told Parliament.

New Delhi: A total of 16,756 NGOs which got foreign funds failed to file their annual returns for 2011-12 under FCRA rules, the government on Wednesday told Parliament. According to data placed in Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Home RPN Singh, Andhra Pradesh has the most number of such organisations at 2,373.
Defaulting NGOs based in the state of Delhi received the maximum foreign funds during the said period, amounting to a cumulative Rs 2,285.75 crore. "The total number of NGOs registered under FCRA, on date, are 41,844. During year 2011-12, Rs 11,548.28 crore was received by the registered NGOs," the Minister said in his reply.
