Hanumangarh (Rajasthan): Post offices in the
country will soon start issuing rail and bus tickets along
with delivering letters.

This is part of Rs 1,850 crore Project Arrow, under
which a Head Post Office (HPO) was inaugurated by Minister
Minister of State for Information Technology and Communication
Sachin Pilot here.
"Under Project Arrow, we plan to provide the best and
most-advanced postal network in the country," Pilot told PTI
here.

"Post offices, very soon, will not only be delivering
letters but also be providing additional facilities like rail
and bus tickets," he added.

The minister will inaugurate HPOs in Bikaner and Nokha
tomorrow and will move to Barmer, Dhorimanna, Pali, Marwar
Junction and Jalore on March 6 to open more such facilities.

Under the project, postal staff have been trained to
handle the new technology and infrastructure facilities in
these post offices have also been upgraded.

Earlier in the day, Pilot addressed a Bishnoi
community function at Jambeshwardham in Bikaner.

Started in 2008, Project Arrow aims at improving
postal network, computerisation of all 1,55,500 post offices
across the country by 2012 and providing additional facilities
such as rail and bus ticket booking in rural areas.
The project also has a special insurance policy for
rural areas known as the Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPIL).

Under the Rs 1,850 crore four-phased project,
Government is focusing on information, communication and
technology.

Pilot projects have been started in five states
including Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and
Andhra Pradesh.

The government has tied up with IT-major Accenture for
IT consultancy in the programme.
