New Delhi, Oct 30: The Supreme Court today directed the apex body for doctors, Medical Council of India (MCI), to set its house in order after it learnt about the absence of coordination between the court appointed administrator and the members of the governing body.

Keeping in mind the large number of pending applications before MCI, a bench comprising Justice M B Shah, Justice S N Variava and Justice D M Dharmadhikari directed it to decide all the applications in tomorrow's meeting.
This was observed by the court during the hearing of a petition filed by former chief of MCI, Ketan Desai, who had challenged the Delhi High Court order removing him from the post and appointing Lt Gen S P Jhingon as administrator.

Solicitor General Harish Salve, keeping in view the earlier thinking of the bench for conducting fresh elections, suggested a panel of four doctors saying that it was not proper to appoint an army man to head the apex body for doctors.

However, appearing for some of the members of the MCI board, senior advocate Arun Jailty opposed the move for fresh elections saying that the elected members had a tenure of six years and they should not be asked to vacate their position after six months.

The court the posted the matter for final hearing on November 20.
