Khasi council chief quits

The chief executive member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) PN Syiem has resigned.

Shillong: The chief executive member (CEM)
of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) PN Syiem
has resigned citing `personal reasons`, setting the stage for
the fourth change of guard in the council infamous for
political instability.

Syiem, the Congress district council member from
Mawsynram, put down his papers before KHADC chairman F Lyngdoh
last evening and also intimated the decision to Pradesh
Congress president Friday Lyngdoh.

"I have decided to quit as CEM to concentrate on my
constituency," Syiem, who is also the MLA from Mawsynram said.

Syiem, who had taken over as CEM is August last year,
is the third chief of KHADC in just about a year and half,
ever since the 30-member council was elected in February 2009.

A Congress-led alliance of regional parties and independents
is currently ruling the KHADC.
