Punjab Dalit girl rape: Officer transferred after delay in process

A SHO has been transferred to district police lines in connection with alleged delay in registering an attempt to rape case of a 21-year-old Dalit girl, police said today.

Patiala: A SHO has been transferred to district police lines in connection with alleged delay in registering an attempt to rape case of a 21-year-old Dalit girl, police said today.

Gurcharan Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Julkan police station, was transfered last evening and sent to police lines following an inquiry conducted by SP (Detective wing) Jaskaran Singh Teja, police said.

SSP Patiala Gurmeet Singh Chouhan issued the transfer order, they said.

The accused identified as Mandeep Singh was booked last evening for alleged rape attempt on the girl under the relevant provisions of the law , cops said, adding that he was arrested late last night.

Notably, the incident took place on April 4 and the victim had approached the police with the complaint a day later.
