Bharatpur violence: Curfew still in force

Violent clashes last month took place in Bharatpur district between Mev Muslims and Gujjars leaving ten persons dead.

Jaipur: Curfew is still in force in five
police station circles in Bharatpur district where violent
clashes last month between Mev Muslims and Gujjars left ten
persons dead.

Though things are improving, the district administration
does not want to take any chance so the curfew remains in
force in five police station circles from 9 pm to 6 am,
district collector Gaurav Goyal said on Monday.

"Everything is in order now but we want to ensure that
nothing like Gopalgarh violence occurs once again. So, as a
precautionary measure, we have not lifted curfew completely in
five police station circles," Goyal said today.

Relaxation in curfew is from 6 am to 9 pm in Gopalgarh,
Kaman, Jurehra, Pahadi and Sikri police station circles, he
said.

Ten members of Mev community were killed in the clash
which broke out in Mev and Gujjar community people on
September 14 following a land related dispute in Gopalgarh
town.

The National Minority Commission had yesterday held the
Congress government in Rajasthan responsible for the violent
clashes.
