One-year prison term for defacing property in Rajasthan

Defacing property in Rajasthan will now invite a year-long prison term.

Jaipur: Defacing property in Rajasthan will now invite a year-long prison term.

This is one of the provisions of the Rajasthan Prevention of Defacement of Property (Amendment) Bill, 2015 introduced in the state Assembly on Thursday to amend the existing law that came into force in 2006.

The amendment proposes to increase punishment and fine in case of defacement of property.

The bill noted that houses, walls, fences and other structures situated in the municipal area are usually defaced by various persons. "Such defacement spoils the public view and the beauty of the properties and causes the bad image of the city or town in the minds of citizens as well visitors."

From the current month-long jail term, the bill now seeks to have a one year prison term and for a subsequent offence, imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years.
