3 militants sentenced for plotting to kill Musharraf

Islamabad, Oct 19: A Pakistani court todaysentenced three militants belonging to a Jehadi outfit for tenyears imprisonment for hatching a conspiracy to assassinatePresident Pervez Musharraf last year.

Islamabad, Oct 19: A Pakistani court today
sentenced three militants belonging to a Jehadi outfit for ten
years imprisonment for hatching a conspiracy to assassinate
President Pervez Musharraf last year.

The judge of the anti-terrorism court in Karachi, Aley
Maqbool Rizvi convicted and sentenced Mohammed Imran, Mohammed
Hanif and Ashraf alleged activists of Harkat ul Mujahideen
al-Almi outfit for ten years rigorous imprisonment for
attempting to kill Musharraf.

The court, however, acquitted two others, including
accused Sharib and a police inspector Wasim Akhtar, who was
also co-accused in the case, for lack of evidence.

The militants attempted to assassinate Musharraf
on April 26, 2002, during one of his trips to Karachi.

According to prosecution the alleged plot failed as
the remote-controlled bomb hidden in car failed to detonate.

The attorney for the three convicts said he will
appeal against the verdict.
