Kathmandu, Dec 26: Former Nepalese minister Chiranjivi Wagley, who was arrested on charges of amassing property while in power, has been released on bail of two crore rupees, official sources said today.
Wagley, who served in the sacked Deuba government and now holds the post of vice president of Nepali Congress (Democratic), was arrested by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) over a month ago.
A special court yesterday decided to release him on bail of two crore rupees, the sources said.
This was the first time in the Nepalese history that such a huge bail amount was paid by any politician.
The CIAA moved a case against Wagle as his actual assets and the assets declared by him did not match. His son Devendra was also interrogated by the CIAA for several times on the
same charges.
