Rawalpindi, Dec 15: Interpol Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) has asked Islamabad if former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Ali Zardari are on the government list of ‘wanted people’.
In September this year, the Interpol headquarters in France inquired about the status of Bhutto and if she still was a ‘wanted person’, after she had announced her plan to return to Pakistan on October 18, sources said.
When asked about the request made by Interpol Riyadh, Federal Investigation Agency Director General Tariq Pervez said: "Yes, Interpol Riyadh has inquired of us about the status of red notices issued against Bhutto, and we have asked the National Accountability Bureau to guide us, so that we could respond."
Answering a question, he said: "Any country can ask Pakistan to update it on the status of Red Notices issued against a person."
The Interpol had issued the red notices against Bhutto and Zardari on a request of the Pakistan Government in January 2006, a newspaper reported.
