Nepal police arrest top Maoist commander

Nepal Police today arrested a top Maoist platoon commander from Chitwan district and recovered some explosives from him.

Kathmandu: Nepal Police today arrested a
top Maoist platoon commander from Chitwan district and
recovered some explosives from him.

Santosh Rai `Pratirodh`, 24, a platoon commander of a
satellite camp under the Peoples Liberation Army, second
division in Sindhuli was arrested with a hand grenade,
according to the Central Police News Room.

According to the Police Rai was coming to Kathmandu to
participate in the mass protests called by his party on May 1.

He, however, claimed that he is a public security
officer of the party and was going to Kathmandu to participate
in a function of the party.

The arrest came despite the Maoists claim that their
protest will be peaceful and non-violent.

Earlier on Monday the police have seized a truck load
of sticks to prepare for their protests in the capital city.
