New Nepalese army chief appointed

Kathmandu, Sept 09: King Gyanendra today administered
oath of office to the newly appointed Nepalese chief of army
staff Lt Gen Pyar Jung Thapa at the Narayanhiti palace.

Thapa succeeded Prajwolla Shumsher Rana as the chief of
army.

He was designated as the army chief last month.

Thapa, appointed to the post for a four-year term, took
charge today.
