New Delhi, Dec 11: Pakistan has offered to receive a
delegation of the families of Prisoners of Wars (PoWs), Rajya
Sabha was told today.
The government, after consulting the matter with the
relatives' associations of the PoWs, was considering the
suggestions put forth by the associations viz-a-viz Pakistani
proposal as also the most opportune time for taking the
process further, defence minister George Fernandes said in a
written reply.
In response to the matter raised by Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee at Agra summit, the Pakistan government, in
September, 2001, intimated that it had conducted an
'exhaustive search' and scrutiny of jail records throughout
the country to ascertain whether any Indian PoW from 1971 was
was still held anywhere in Pakistan.
