After Amma canteens, Jayalalithaa launches Amma pharmacies

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday launched Amma pharmacies.

`Amma Canteens` and `Amma mineral water` and `Amma salt` are already a hit in the state.
The government has set up 100 `Amma Marundagam` (medical stores), which will sell medicines at reasonable prices.

Ten shops were opened in Chennai and 90 shops in the rest of the state.

The shops will be selling medicines at affordable prices with only 4 percent profit against the usual 14 percent margin.
The government has allotted Rs 20 crore for the project.

The 66-year-old Jayalalithaa is called `Amma` by her followers in Tamil Nadu.
