Sankarankoil, Tamil Nadu: Amma’s magic has worked again in Tamil Nadu with the AIADMK retaining Sankarankoil (SC) Assembly seat by over 68,000 votes.

AIADMK’s Muthuselvi bagged 94,927 votes to emerge victorious.

DMK`s Jawahar Suryakumar got 26,220 votes followed by MDMK`s T Sadan Thirumalaikumar (20,678) and DMDK`s K Muthukumar (12,144 votes).

Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa thanked the voters.
The bypoll was keenly watched as all major political parties are testing their fortunes for the first time after the April 2011 Assembly elections.

The mandate will be seen as an endorsement of Jayalalithaa`s populist policies despite the state being in the grip of unscheduled power cuts.

Bypoll was necessitated due to the death of AIADMK minister C Karuppasamy in October last.

Jayalalithaa had left no stone unturned to stretch her party`s winning streak, after having won the Tiruchirappalli (west) by poll in October last.

DMK had sought to redeem its lost glory and party chief M Karunanidhi was been hopeful of a good show; the results would surely come as a dampener for the party.
