Lucknow: Moderate to heavy showers lashed various parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, leaving five persons dead in rain-related incidents.

While two persons died in Sonebhadra, one each was killed in Ballia, Varanasi and Hardoi districts, the relief commissioner office said.

With this, the number of deaths in the state this monsoon has gone up to 186, it said.

The state continued to receive rains today as monsoon remained active over most parts of the state, resulting in moderate to heavy showers at many places.

Meja, Birdghat and Bisalpur received maximum 8 cm of rainfall each, followed by Saharanpur 7 cm, Iglas 6 cm and Soron, Kanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Mawana 5 cm each, the MeT department said.

Gorakhpur, Karhal, Thakudwara, Deoband and Swar received 4 cm of rainfall each, while Phoolpur, Varanasi, Nawabganj, Budhana, Puranpur and Baheri got 3 cm of rainfall each.

The MeT forecast says rain and thundershowers will occur at most places over western UP, and at many places over the eastern region of the state during the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, a Central Water Commission report said many major rivers flowing through the state are still in spate.

It said Ganga is still flowing above the red mark at Ghazipur and Ballia and under the danger mark at Fatehgarh and Kanpur.

Yamuna is close to the red mark at Prayag Ghat (Mathura) and Sharda and Ghaghra continue to flow above the danger mark at Palia Kalan and Elgin Bridge respectively.

Rapti is flowing near the red mark at Bhinga (Shrawasti), and Balrampur and Budhi Rapti have crossed the danger mark at Kakrahi in Siddhartnagar, it said.
