Dehradun: Angry locals Thursday blocked the Dehradun-Haridwar road in protest against the murder of a youth during a robbery incident here.

Residents of Vivek Vihar area blocked the road bringing traffic to a halt for hours and shouted anti-government slogans, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, Raipur police station incharge Mukesh Tyagi said.

However, the blockade was lifted after senior police officials intervened and assured the locals of quick action against the unidentified culprits.

Five armed robbers yesterday broke into the house of an agriculture officer and allegedly shot dead his son when he resisted their robbery attempt in the wee hours yesterday, police said.

The five also beat up the couple and looted cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, they said.

Investigations are being carried out in the right direction and we are confident the culprits will soon be arrested, ADG (Law and order) RS Meena said.

Main Opposition BJP also accused the administration for total collapse of law and order machinery state.

"This is the umpteenth incident of loot in the city this year. But the state administration doesn't want to learn lessons from any of them," Ajay Bhatt, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly said.

"The incident only illustrates that the?law and order machinery has collapsed totally in the state and the morale of wrongdoers has gone up like never before", he added.

Former chief minister?Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank said the state government must take serious note of the incident and bring the culprits to book at the earliest.
