Bandh affects normal life in North Dinajpur

Normal life was partially disrupted following a 12-hour bandh called by the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)in North Dinajpur district on Friday.

Raiganj: Normal life was partially disrupted following a 12-hour bandh called by the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)in North Dinajpur district on Friday.

Several schools, colleges and offices remained closed while vehicles mostly did not ply. Some markets also did not open, police officials said.

The bandh was called in protest against the alleged denial of filing nomination papers by ABVP students allegedly by Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad in several colleges of the district for students'union elections.

BJP has extended its support to the bandh.

Meanwhile, the indefinite hunger strike by about 15 ABVP students continued for the second day today in front of the office of the District Magistrate Smita Pandey demanding allowing of fair deal in the elections.

The election will be held on January 30.
