One more swine flu death in WB, toll rises to 9 in the state

 A resident of the city succumbed to swine flu early this morning, taking the toll to nine in the state since January as eight new cases of H1N1 infection were reported.

Kolkata: A resident of the city succumbed to swine flu early this morning, taking the toll to nine in the state since January as eight new cases of H1N1 infection were reported.

"The patient in his late 30s remained in a critical condition for the past couple of days. He was shifted to a private hospital from a nursing home on Wednesday, where his condition deteriorated.

He died early this morning," West Bengal Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy said.

He said that with eight new cases of infection, the total number of affected persons has risen to 189.

Among the eight new cases, five were from the city and one each from Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and North 24-Parganas districts, Satpathy said.
