Saradha scam: Mukul Roy in city, to go to Delhi again

Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy, who has been asked by the CBI to appear before it in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, arrived here on Saturday from Delhi and said he would again go to the capital for party work.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy, who has been asked by the CBI to appear before it in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, arrived here on Saturday from Delhi and said he would again go to the capital for party work.

"Before leaving for Delhi I had said I am going there for party work. I have come to Kolkata today and tomorrow I will take part in a campaign programme of the party for the Bongaon Lok Sabha seat by-election. Again I will go to Delhi for party work," Roy told reporters without elaborating.

Roy said during his stay in Delhi he had gone to the Election Commission to place the party' views on the two by-polls announced for West Bengal.

"I went to the Election Commission and placed the party's views and they have said that they would give their opinion," he said.

Roy went to the EC yesterday on the ground that the declaration of Delhi election results immediately before the by-polls in Bongaon Lok Sabha and Krishnaganj assembly seats, which are due to be held on February 13, would 'unduly influence' the voters in West Bengal.

CBI had on January 12 asked Roy, who was in Delhi to appear before it in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.

Roy had on January 14 sought 15 day's time to appear before the investigating agency.

"Since I am a key functionary of the party and would be pre-occupied with the by-election, I have sought 15 days time from CBI," he had told reporters.

The senior TMC leader, who had gone to Delhi again on January 15, had said he would cooperate with CBI in its investigation.

A CBI source had told PTI Roy had been asked to appear before the agency by January 21, 2015.
